David's eye for detail and almost 'over the top' requirement for getting absolutely everything just right made the house more a home for us.

Looking for the right builder for your 'Dream Home' can be a mine field. David Prior Homes delivers on quality, finish, professionalism and follow-up care. The quality of the finish was great; it even met my husband’s high standard. We valued the flexibility of David and Allison in working with us to ensure we could incorporate all of our preferences in building our home. Our concerns were addressed promptly and resolved. When I finished work early due to ill health in 2007, we decided to build a new home for our retirement. We asked a local real estate agent we knew for a few recommendations for builders. Not just names rather builders he knew of personally that were of a good standard. We interviewed the ones on his list but after the first time we met with David Prior and his wife Allison, my wife and I both came to the same conclusion separately, we wanted David to build our new home. Although we were still to get a firm quote for the work, we both felt very confident with using David Prior Homes for our big project.

My wife and I had drawn a plan of what we wanted on graph paper which we showed David & Allison along with some magazine photos to give them an idea of the sort of home we wanted. After taking on board some of their suggestions, David arranged to have proper plans drawn up. From the beginning of our relationship, we were kept up to date with every step. You never felt you were annoying or intruding when we wanted to ask what some may have considered a “silly question”.

My wife and I tend to watch a lot of the English & some American Property shows and the one theme that runs through most of them is the “Stress” involved in building your own home. Even those that went relatively smoothly talked about the issues involving making all the decisions required to get the house they wanted. In our case though, there was very little of this. David made the whole process quite painless. Our biggest dramas were with a supplier we had contracted to supply a PC item for the build going bust and a fault in out French doors which we would have not noticed if David had not pointed it out. He sorted the issue out with no stress to us what so ever. There were a couple of occasions when large cost items came to be installed where we had accepted the price for these items only for David to come to us to say he had been able to get a better price for these services than the original quote and we were to receive a credit of the original price.

The finished home was not just what we had thought we wanted,
rather, much more. The thought David put into design ideas to enhance our original brief made all the difference. His eye for detail and almost “over the top” requirement for getting absolutely everything just right made the house more a home for us.

In 2018, we engaged David Prior Homes to extensively renovate a beautiful 40 year old timber home nestled into the forest hillside at the back of Palmwoods. The home was architecturally designed back in the mid 70’s and was suffering from age and begged for some love and design modifications.

David and Alison came highly recommended from various professionals we had working on the design and compliance side of the renovation. After a small tender process, it became apparent that David Prior Homes was the most suitable builder for our project, being timber specialists and competitive on price. We appreciated the upfront opinions and recommendations David brought to the table prior to the commencement of construction and we found his wealth of practical knowledge around all-things timber so valuable.

As in most renovations, once the skin is peeled back the true condition of a home is revealed, and this can be a scary scenario. David and his experienced team of carpenters were adept at not only identifying the extent of additional work required but coming up with cost effective solutions and presenting them to us with all the options. Just as importantly, David also engages subcontracting trades that he has vetted and is assured of their workmanship.

The resulting product of 3 months work was an amazing timber masterpiece that surpassed our expectations on so many fronts.
