The Sunshine Coast is the ideal place to live an outdoor lifestyle. When planning your new home design carefully consider how you would like to utilise your outdoor space. By understanding your lifestyle desires you are better equipped to discuss with your custom home builder elements you would like to incorporate in outdoors.
Often the first place to start is an outdoor entertainment area.
Helpful questions include:
- How many people to you have share a meal in the space?
- Would we use the space regularly enough to include an outdoor kitchen? And, if so do we add a fridge?
- Does the area have good natural airflow / breezes or should an outdoor fan be included.
- Do we want the space covered or semi-enclosed. It so, how do we do that effectively while making use of natural light?

- A pool. And, if so what size and what style fencing will work best.
- A fenced in garden and/or greenhouse.
- A shed for storing bikes or horseriding gear, or to use as a woodworking shed!
If you are thinking of a pool and/or garden don’t forget to discuss water saving options. Depending on the size and where on the Sunshine Coast you live you may like to consider installing a tank for those things as well.
If you are incorporating other features into your property consider how people will interact when in each space as well as when moving from space to space. This way you can discuss with your builder whether you have need additional walkways, fencing or landscaping to define spaces.
