The Sunshine Coast is the ideal place to live an outdoor lifestyle. When planning your new home design carefully consider how you would like to utilise your outdoor space. By understanding your lifestyle desires you are better equipped to discuss with your custom home builder elements you would like to incorporate in outdoors.
Often the first place to start is an outdoor entertainment area.
Helpful questions include:
- How many people to you have share a meal in the space?
- Would we use the space regularly enough to include an outdoor kitchen? And, if so do we add a fridge?
- Does the area have good natural airflow / breezes or should an outdoor fan be included.
- Do we want the space covered or semi-enclosed. It so, how do we do that effectively while making use of natural light?
Once you’ve answered these types of questions you can work with you builder to determine the size of the outdoor area you require. Further, ensure your outdoor area flows seamlessly with your indoor living space for optimal function.
Moving beyond your outdoor entertainment space the size of your property will determine what other elements you include.
You might like consider:
- A firepit area with seating.
- A pool. And, if so what size and what style fencing will work best.
- A fenced in garden and/or greenhouse.
- A shed for storing bikes or horseriding gear, or to use as a woodworking shed!
If you are thinking of a pool and/or garden don’t forget to discuss water saving options. Depending on the size and where on the Sunshine Coast you live you may like to consider installing a tank for those things as well.
If you are incorporating other features into your property consider how people will interact when in each space as well as when moving from space to space. This way you can discuss with your builder whether you have need additional walkways, fencing or landscaping to define spaces.
Whatever your lifestlye dreams for your home don’t limit your thoughts to the interior but expand your vision to include the outdoor space. Our homes should be places we can enjoy being outdoors with our family and friends. A clear vision will help your builder understand how you want to live so they can assist you in discovering ways to make your dreams a reality.
